David W. Neels is a Certified Public Accountant with The Waage Law Firm, A Professional Corporation. Mr. Neels has more than thirty-five years of professional experience, which includes extensive tax and accounting experience with individuals in closely-held businesses, real estate investments, portfolio management and the gaming/hospitality industry.
Mr. Neels graduated from the California State University, Northridge with Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, specializing in Accounting. Mr. Neels was active in student government, representing the School of Business on the Student Senate. He holds Certified Public Accountant licenses in California and Nevada.
After graduating from the California State University, Northridge, Mr. Neels worked for three national CPA firms in California and Nevada as an accountant supervising financial accounting, financial statement audits and tax return planning and preparation for closely-held businesses and their owners. In Nevada, Mr. Neels worked closely with hotel/casino owners on feasibility studies for proposed new hotel/casinos in the Reno/Tahoe area. Mr. Neels also created and streamlined casino’s internal control documents and to maximize their cash management efficiency.
During this period, Mr. Neels left public accounting for three years and joined the corporate office of an international acquisition firm in their Century City, California headquarters. He initially worked in the internal audit department, validating the balance sheets of the companies acquired in North America and the Caribbean. Later, Mr. Neels accepted a position as the controller of one of the company’s Southern California divisions, where he earned valuable experience growing a company, managing the accounting and data processing departments, supervising personnel, dealing with unions while maintaining a fleet of delivery vehicles and a warehouse of high-turnover inventory.
In 1983, Mr. Neels founded a CPA firm in San Diego with a partner and grew this practice for the next eighteen years, focusing on individuals and their closely-held businesses. Mr. Neels was a valuable resource to his clients, providing business guidance and cutting edge tax advice. After selling his interest in the CPA practice to his partner, Mr. Neels became associated with a National Real Estate Investment Network.
During that association, Mr. Neels presented numerous seminars and workshops on the tax advantages and strategies of real estate investment ownership to thousands of real estate investors. At the same time, he founded and built a thriving CPA practice specializing in real estate investors and the tax and accounting issues unique to the real estate investment community. Mr. Neels is a native of Southern California, born and raised in the Los Angeles region, and has lived in the San Diego area since 1981. Mr. Neels has been active in various civic, educational and professional organizations, including the Rotary Club and Boy Scouts.
