Gary J. Mevorah is an actuary with The Waage Law Firm, A Professional Corporation. Mr. Mevorah has twenty years of experience as a pension actuary. Mr. Mevorah’s experience includes pension actuarial services for large corporate clients, small closely held businesses, public employers and executives, and directors of financial institutions.

Mr. Mevorah graduated from the State University of New York at Albany with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics. Mr. Mevorah completed his actuarial examinations and became an Associate of the Society of Actuaries in 1987. In 1992, Mr. Mevorah became licensed as an Enrolled Actuary.

Upon graduation from SUNY Albany, Mr. Mevorah joined the international human resource consulting firm of Watson Wyatt. There, he gained experience in pension plan design, pension plan funding and accounting, cost projections for collectively bargained pension plans, and year-end pension reporting for small, medium and large Fortune 100 corporations.

After seven years at Watson Wyatt, Mr. Mevorah joined the international accounting and consulting firm of Ernst & Young. At E&Y, Mr. Mevorah was a manager. He received additional pension experience in the area of determining costs and accounting for post-retirement medical benefits and executive retirement benefit plans.

Following Mr. Mevorah’s tenure at E&Y, he was hired as the Chief Actuary for the Association County Commissioners of Georgia (“ACCG”) public employee retirement system. In this role, Mr. Mevorah was a consultant to public officials, government executive employees, and the Board of Trustees for the retirement system. Mr. Mevorah also led retirement committee meetings and delivered presentations at the Board of Trustees meetings.

After six years in his role for the ACCG, Mr. Mevorah established Pensionright, Inc., where he specialized in the review of distributions from pension plans, pension plan participant rights, and pension claims. He also served as an expert in class action lawsuits related to company pension plans, cases pertaining to pension litigation for individuals, and the division of pensions from divorce.

Mr. Mevorah has served on The Actuary of the Future Council and has been a speaker at several Society of Actuaries meetings and a Society of Public Accountants meeting. He has also written articles for actuarial publications, such as Contingencies.

Mr. Mevorah is also active in his community, volunteering for the Starlight Foundation, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, and Hands On Atlanta. He has been a member of the international club called Toastmasters since 1995.

Mr. Mevorah is a native of New York, and after living in Atlanta for 12 years, has relocated to San Diego to join The Waage Law Firm, A Professional Corporation, as an actuary. Mr. Mevorah remains informed of legislative developments and trends in the pension and benefits industry.
