Robert O. Jensen is a C.P.A. with The Waage Law Firm, A Professional Corporation, practicing in both the tax and estate planning departments. Mr. Jensen has over thirty years of professional experience, including eighteen years in public accounting, specializing in income tax planning and consulting. During his career in taxation, Mr. Jensen acquired over twenty years of experience in the private industry fields of financial institutions, corporate taxation and management.
Mr. Jensen graduated from San Diego State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. While attending San Diego State, Mr. Jensen also prepared for and passed the Uniform Certified Public Accountant examination. Mr. Jensen has been admitted to practice before the Internal Revenue Service and the California Franchise Tax Board.
Upon graduation from college, Mr. Jensen joined the international public accounting firm of Peat Marwick, Mitchell & Co., where he worked in the tax department of its San Diego office. During his career at Peat Marwick, Mitchell & Co., which later became KPMG, Mr. Jensen specialized in individual, fiduciary and corporate tax compliance, tax audits, research and consulting. He also gained extensive experience in the taxation of financial institutions and real estate partnerships. In addition, he advised various individual and corporate clients on tax controversy and dispute resolution.
Mr. Jensen served corporate clients in a wide range of disciplines, including real estate development, affordable housing, savings and loans, and banking. He served and advised a wide range of individual clients, including employees, executives, investors, and retirees.
While at KPMG, Mr. Jensen also participated in a number of recurring audit engagements in the financial industry. This wide range of experience, coupled with an education in financial accounting, has provided Mr. Jensen with a strong background in financial statement analysis, generally accepted accounting principles, and generally accepted accounting standards.
Mr. Jensen has participated in professional education, both as a student and instructor, in a number of local seminars for tax accountants, and is broadly familiar with the Internal Revenue Code and Regulations. Through various course studies and individual study, he continues to remain informed on current developments in tax legislation, Tax Court decisions and Internal Revenue Service interpretations and pronouncements.
Mr. Jensen is also active in the community. He has served as the Chairman of the Tax Issues committee of California Savings and Loan League, President of the San Diego chapter of the Financial Managers Society, Chairman of the Salvation Army Advisory Board for San Diego County, and as a member of the Tax Committee for the U.S. League of Savings Institutions. Mr. Jensen has been a frequent speaker on tax issues affecting individuals and financial institutions.
