Michael G. Wastvedt is a C.P.A. with The Waage Law Firm, A Professional Corporation. Mr. Wastvedt has over sixteen years of professional experience. During his professional career, Mr. Wastvedt has acquired experience in the private industry fields of mutual funds, high net worth family portfolio management, and the operational advisement of small and midsized businesses.
Mr. Wastvedt graduated from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, North Dakota with Bachelor of Science degrees in both Accountancy and Finance. He prepared for and passed the Uniform Certified Public Accountant examination.
Upon graduation from the University of North Dakota, Mr. Wastvedt worked for Invesco Financial Funds in Denver, Colorado as an accountant performing financial accounting and later generating financial statements for many of the mutual and private pension funds managed by the firm.
Following his exposure to the financial markets, Mr. Wastvedt joined the public accounting firm of Reese Henry and Company, Inc., in their Aspen, Colorado office. He initially worked in both the audit and tax departments but eventually transitioned completely to the tax side of the firm, where he primarily worked with high net worth families and entrepreneurial businesses providing individual, corporate and real estate partnership tax planning, compliance, research and consulting services.
Mr. Wastvedt served as the Treasurer for a high net worth family office for a number of years. During his tenure with this holding company he actively participated in the analysis, deal flow, and investment in venture stage operational entities, commercial land and real estate, hedge funds, and private equity opportunities. He was extensively involved with the coordination of outside legal counsel for these activities as well as initial public offering filings and SEC compliance related to insider level holdings. Mr. Wastvedt was also responsible for the management and negotiation of credit facilities with top-tier national banks and financial institutions, in addition to being in charge of producing the quarterly portfolio valuation report, which reflected the performance of all investments held globally by the organization.
Mr. Wastvedt has advised small businesses and participated in ventures over the course of his career. This wide range of experience, working for startup companies, to SEC compliant public organizations and consulting, for small businesses as well as CEOs of Fortune 500 firms gives Mr. Wastvedt a broad base of theoretical and real world experience. Not only does he understand how business should work, but he also knows how business really works in the real world from micro businesses to a publicly traded entity.
Mr. Wastvedt recently relocated to the San Diego area from Aspen, Colorado. During his residence in the local Aspen area he was involved in the community and participated as a member of various boards, including the Pitkin County Financial Advisory Board and the Town of Basalt Planning and Zoning Commission.
His practice is focused on addressing the tax and business issues faced by corporations, partnerships, and other business entities, as well as the individuals who are involved with those entities.
